The Google Sheet that does your technician payouts for you.

Log each job once. Payouts calculate themselves — percentage, flat rate, tiered commission or pooled tips — and a summary tab totals every technician for whatever pay period you pick. No formulas to write, no software to learn.

Works in Google Sheets and Excel. Yours to keep and reuse every period.

What's inside

Five tabs. Set up your crew once, then it's just logging jobs.

Tabs 1 & 2

Start Here + Setup

A worked-example guide to every pay rule, then one screen to enter your crew and how each person is paid. Everything after this reads from that list.

Tab 3

Jobs Log

One row per job — date, technician (dropdown), amount, tip. Commission calculates itself. A Check column flags any row that would be silently left out of your payout run.

Tabs 4 & 5

Payout Summary + Example

Pick a date range, get every technician's total, company totals and self-checks. Plus a fully worked example period you can compare against.

Handles five pay structures: percentage commission, flat rate per job, a combined flat-plus-percentage rate, tiered rates that change with job volume, and tip pooling split across the crew.

Frequently asked questions

What pay structures does this handle?

Five. Percentage commission on the job amount; flat rate per job; flat + percentage, a fixed amount per job plus a percentage on top; tiered rates that step up with the number of jobs completed in the period; and tip pooling, where selected tips go into one pot split evenly across whoever worked those jobs. Each technician is set to one of the first four rules, and any single job can be overridden with a one-off rate. See how the four commission methods are calculated and how tip pooling works, each with a worked example.

Do I need to know spreadsheet formulas?

No. You only type into the plain columns — date, technician, amount, commission %, tip. Every calculated column fills itself in, and those formula cells are protected so a stray keystroke can't accidentally overwrite one. Nothing about your own file is restricted — download, print, copy and edit it however you like; only the formulas themselves are guarded.

Google Sheets or Excel?

Both, identically. Every formula is written to standard functions that work the same in either app — no dynamic-array formulas, nothing that degrades in older Excel. The one small bonus in Google Sheets: double-clicking a date cell opens a calendar to pick from, where Excel has you type the date.

How do I know the math is right?

Every formula was evaluated against a spreadsheet engine before release, across all five pay structures, tier-band changes, per-job rate overrides, refunds and date-filtered periods. The template also checks itself: it flags any job missing a date or technician, any job logged against someone not on your roster, and any leftover cents from splitting a tip pool — the silent errors that otherwise quietly leave someone out of a payout run.

Can I use this for more than one pay period?

Yes — that's the point. Keep logging every period into the same Jobs Log tab. The Summary tab filters by pay period, so your full history stays in one file.

What if I outgrow the spreadsheet?

Move to the done-for-you service any time — same underlying math, we just do the data entry and hand back the finished file every period instead of you maintaining the sheet.

What isn't covered?

One pay rule per technician at a time, and tip pools split evenly rather than weighted by hours or seniority. It also prepares numbers only — it doesn't run payroll, withhold tax or file anything. Hand the totals to your payroll provider.
